Hi Guys,

It is actually possible to setup 2 BES accounts on the one BB device (straight from my BES 4.1.6 RIM training course..). There are a few considerations though..

The BES's need to be different BES. i.e. you cannot have one BES serving both the mailboxes due to the service books. mail account 1 - BES 1 ; mail account 2 - BES 2.

If both BES have IT policy settings enforced the last mailbox/BES activation policy is stamped to the Device. So you need to determine which policy you ultimately want enforced on the device and work from there.

Browser setting might become tricky. (This is just my guess) but I would expect the MDS service that gets enforced by the last BES policy will be the one that provides the Web browser connectivity.

Default email account would be the first BES activation. If you wanted to modify the default account you'd need to do it manually.

By default the BES service books have the name "Desktop". You would need to rename the BES service book names to BES1 / BES2 or similar to make it easy to determine which service book belongs to which BES. (typically done via Desktop Manager > Email Settings > Advanced > Message service display name: )

It's not really the easiest process but it is possible..

As an FYI it is technically possible but it doesn't work in theory. Over the years many people have tried this exact process and the ones who got it to work (or to partially work) had nothing but issues. As mention just setup the primary email address via BES and setup the remaining accounts using BIS (you can add 11 accounts). To correctly filter your BES email into one folder you can run the “Enable BES Only Message Application” using the following command:

bbdbupdate -db <database_name> -input EnableBESOnlyMessageApplication.sql

Required Files:
BESOnlyMessageApplication.zip

2008 install

I am about to do an install of sbs 2008 for a small client, eventually want to deploy BES for them.. They would ideally like to deploy one server.

In the install guide

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/deliver...tall_Guide.pdf

It states that bes 5.0 can be installed on Windows Server 2008 (64-bit).

If it installs on 64bit would it be able to be installed on the sbs install, noting that server 2008 64bit, exchange 2007 and WSS will be installed together on the same box?

or would it be better to run a base install of server 08 and a virtual SBS 2008?

Opinions please.

Over the next month I will be testing BES 5 and SBS 2008 so if you post back at a later date I will be able to provide detailed\accurate data.

You setup your Blackberry on the BES

then goto your Carrier's Blackberry BIS site, register (with the Blackberry PIN) & setup your BIS emails accounts (Hotmasil, gmail, etc)

Note, you probably should check with your IT department if this is allowed.
Currently they can't stop you receiving these BIS emails, just block you being able to send/reply to emails via BIS account (IT Policy).

We asked our customers not to, as it bypasses security (the emails are delivered directly to the device by the carrier & not via the BES). Also if you forward it to a colleague internally, it's quite possible that it doesn't go through an email security (virus) scanner.

Just found this in the prerequisites:
Upgrading the BlackBerry Enterprise Server software
• Verify that the Windows® that you want to use to install the BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software is assigned the required
permissions to complete the installation process.
• Delete inactive user accounts from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
• Obtain the following information:
• BlackBerry® Client Access License key
• SRP host
• SRP identifier
• SRP key
• computer name and port number of the instant messaging server (use the virtual server name and port number where
the AJAX Service is installed, if applicable)
• computer name and port number of the proxy server (optional)
If you are upgrading from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Small Business Edition or BlackBerry® Professional Software to
a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, obtain a new BlackBerry CAL key
. For more information, visit Smartphones, Cell Phones & Smart Phones at BlackBerry.com
support to read article KB03535.
• Upgrade all BlackBerry Enterprise Server instances to version 4.0 SP7, 4.1 SP3, or later.
• Back up the BlackBerry Enterprise Server databases.
• If you configured database replication for the BlackBerry Configuration Database, turn database replication off.
• If you installed the BlackBerry database notification system on a remote Microsoft® SQL Server®, upgrade it manually.
• If you are upgrading from a 5.0 Beta version and the BlackBerry Administration Service is installed on another computer,
in the Windows® Services, stop the BlackBerry Administration Service - Application Servers and the BlackBerry
Administration Service - Native Code Containers services.

Question

I got an email yesterday to say that BES 5.0 is available but on the site BES 5.0 is just a 2mb file...

Does anyone know where to download from (an alternative site would be good as RIM is so painfully slow and does not support resume)

Code:
Software For BlackBerry Enterprise Server v5.0 for IBM(R) Lotus(R) Domino(R)

BlackBerry Enterprise Server v5.0 Interim Security Software Update 2

    * File name: bes_as_fix_324730_5.0.0.zip
    * File size: 2 MB
    * Date posted: 26-May-2009
Anyone know what the lowest version of handset software you need to have before you can do OTA upgrade to version 5.0? (infact does 5.0 even go on 8310 and 8120 or only smart phones)

I have uploaded the security update to my server so you can click HERE to download the file. In order to update any device wirelessly it needs to be already running firmware 4.5 or higher.
