Talk-Now Combines Mobile Presence with Relevance on the Blackberry for the First Time

Talk-Now Combines Mobile Presence with Relevance on the Blackberry® for the First Time
March 23, 2007

iotum has released new enhancements to Talk-Now, a revolutionary New Presence application for the Blackberry® that lets you SHARE your availability without losing control, SEE who is available and who wants to talk with you, and BE NOTIFIED when people you need to talk to become available.

Eliminate Telephone Tag: Your Talk-Now network of contacts are able to see if you are available to take their calls, and you know the right times to call them as well.

Unlike traditional presence applications, which show the same availability to every subscriber, Talk-Now uses the intelligence of the award-winning Relevance Engine to show the subscriber’s actual willingness to speak with specific individuals, based on their relationship to the subscriber and what the subscriber is currently doing.

This release addresses one of the major feature requests of our users. We’ve created a Contacts list, which is automatically populated with those contacts who are also Talk-Now subscribers. Now you can see, at a glance, who’s available for a call—without having to manually add each person to your list. If you need to be notified when one of these people becomes available, simply move them to the new Notify Me list. When they become available, Talk-Now will notify you.

In addition to the existing green (available) and red (unavailable) states, we’ve added a yellow state which indicates busy, but interruptible. The way it works is simple: you designate select people or groups as VIPs, which grants them the privilege to interrupt you. Unlike other contacts, they see additional information about what you’re doing, such as “in a meeting.” This lets your trusted contacts make an informed decision about whether to interrupt or not.

Finally, we’ve completely revamped our setup wizard so that it can be run directly from your BlackBerry handset. Simpler and easier, it also removes any requirement to use your PC for setup.

New users can download Talk-Now by visiting Talk-Now | Platform | iotum™ | Simply Relevant™

Existing users can choose the menu item "check for updates" from within the Talk-Now application on your BlackBerry, or by navigating to http://www.iotum.com/downloads/blackberry/talk-now.jad using the BlackBerry browser.

The Talk-Now application runs on the newest BlackBerry models – the 8700 series, the Pearl, and most handhelds running OS 4.1 or higher. BlackBerry users can get a free account by signing up at Talk-Now | Platform | iotum™ | Simply Relevant™. Installation is via over-the-air download and is free.

Start your Talk-Now network today.

BlackBerry Cool visits iotum

Here’s a little home movie for you, pals. A while back, members of the BlackBerry Cool team made a little road trip to the offices of iotum, makers of the Talk-Now application we love so much. Alec Saunders, CEO and all around cool guy, was kind enough to give us a tour, an interview, and a great run-through of the application that we swear will change the way businesses use their BlackBerry devices.
