Optus and Research In Motion (RIM) today announced the new BlackBerry® Curve™ 8900 smartphone – the thinnest, lightest full-QWERTY BlackBerry® smartphone – is now available on the Optus network.

The BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone features an elegant, compact design with a stylish black finish and chrome frame. In addition to its easy-to-use full-QWERTY keyboard, the BlackBerry Curve 8900 features a large and vivid display with the highest resolution available on a BlackBerry smartphone (480x360) and a next generation 512MHz processor for fast and responsive performance, as well as built-in Wi-Fi® (802.11 b/g) and GPS with support for location-based applications and services. It also supports a wide range of popular communications, social networking and multimedia applications, making it easier than ever to stay connected, productive and entertained while on the go.

The BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone includes advanced multimedia capabilities including a 3.2-megapixel camera with image stabilisation, zoom, flash and video recording, and a rich media player together with a 3.5mm stereo headset jack and headset. It includes a hot-swappable microSD/SDHC memory card slot (with a 256MB card included) and can support memory cards of up to 16GB*, allowing customers to carry and capture more of their favourite music, pictures and video wherever they go.

Phil Offer, Optus Small and Medium Business Marketing Director, said with the increasing popularity of smartphones and wireless solutions, Optus is focused on getting the latest devices into Optus business customers’ hands.

“These handsets are redefining the way that small businesses do business as well as how people communicate. We’ve seen our customers achieve significant cash flow savings by using smartphones to reduce back office work and free up more time to spend with customers, families, friends and personal contacts.

“Optus is delivering tailored pricing plans to suit BlackBerry smartphones users, designed to include substantial data allowances to allow business customers and individuals to access data and manage communication needs on the go.

“The BlackBerry Curve 8900 will be available in stores at the beginning of July and will be a great addition for Optus business and retail customers,” Mr Offer said.

The BlackBerry Curve 8900 smartphone can be purchased from Optus small business for $0 upfront* on a 24 month ‘yes’ business BlackBerry $79 Cap Plan.
