1. Go to Options

3. Select SIM Card
4. In SIM Card type MEPPD
5. Press the Alt key and type MEPP2
6. Enter unlock code

Thanks,

Would this also apply to any BB phone
which are bought from abroad...like Canada
then brought here in the Philippines?

Thanks!

I am still having massive trouble getting any type of data connection with this pre-paid SIM card.

Optus isnt much help. They want me to call from a phone OTHER than my mobile. I dont have that option and wouldnt even know how to call from a payphone. Its very hard to understand their technical support in India.

they told me to text message the number 738 with the command "set" and it would give me APN settings and such. It never happened. Im really frustrated with Optus and may have to pay them another visit in person.

my browser used to be different. It now says "OPTUS ZOO" but when I open the icon, it displays T-MOBILE screen and at the bottom it says "YES OPTUS". When I type in a URL to navigate to, it gives me the APN setting error.

I looked at the browser configuration and it reads "OPTUS ZOO". Is that now my default browser?

Should I try to "wipe" the blackberry and start fresh?

Im very close to just taking it back to Optus and forcing them to fix it in the store. I met a bloke there who was real keen on hanging out with me, since Im American. I can go up there and have him fix it, as he was much help, but I was really hoping to resolve this myself.

I write enterprise level software for a living and this blackberry gives me some of the biggest headaches Ive ever encountered. I think alot of this is foolish and the end user should not have to deal with resetting WAP settings and whatnot. I am impressed with the new Blackberry Device and Desktop Manager program. but it doesnt seem to let me edit my APN or anything like that.

For my APN, I tried to use:

"internet" with no user name or password. that does not work

I tried "internet.com" as I read that somewhere else. that does not work.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Reason Optus want you to call them from another phone line (normally a landline), is so they can direct you whilst you undertake actions on your Blackberry while talking to them, hence why you can't call them on your Blackberry (if they want to complete say a soft reset for instance).... perhaps frustrating yes, but this is the reason.

Its my understanding that without a Blackberry Plan (not available in Australia on pre-paid) is you won't have the ability to set up a Blackberry email address that allows push emails from up to 10 email addresses, no Blackberry browser (hence yes that would mean Optus Zoo would be your internet browser) and some other bits and pieces would be lacking.

I guess the one thing I am not understanding from this (and my level of software expertise would not come close to yours.... with your programming capability, etc) is your desire to maintain a pre-paid plan, and not a post-paid contract?

No criticising your decision at all, but just not sure what is the reasoning of your decision for pre-paid. Having had 2 Blackberries (Pearl and Curve), both obviously on post-paid contracts, I found the set up for each to be relatively painless and simple.... and so thinking perhaps this is the difference?

I believe most of your issues would be resolved with a post-paid plan, but if do you stay with the pre-paid plan, then I wish you very good luck, and hope it all works out for you.

Sorry I can't help out further.....

thanks for the response. Reason I want to keep a pre-paid plan is upgrade the phone eventually. Ive had the phone for a year and a half now, and while I would like to get an iPhone, I just cant justify spending that much money AGAIN.

Id rather keep what I have, since I already own TWO of them.

Also, I have been assured that internet and google maps would work with a prepaid optus plan. I think the hardest part of their support is the people they have answering the phones. They are very difficult to understand and quick to rush you off the phone.

I am curious for the APN settings and what I am doing wrong. I notice that when the phone boots up it still shows the TMOBILE logo. I believe I need to flash or wipe the device.

when I put my USA sim card back in the phone, I get a text message that it "registered" on the network. This does not happen with my Optus sim card.

any suggestions or feedback is appreciated
Thanks

Regarding the support people.... providing you are polite (which I am sure you would be) you are well within your rights as a consumer to ask to speak to someone else in the team due to you not being able to understand the other person.... being firm but polite will normally mean you get someone who you can understand... and don't let them rush you off the phone either... your rights.

Regarding the phone plan.... you should be able to negotiate getting onto a plan with blackberry, with the proviso of adding a phone handset later... have done this before with another carrier mind. Secondly, phone companies in my experience are normally willing to listen, providing you are polite and firm in what you want and patient in putting your request forward, and so quite possibly (again done this previously with another carrier) start a new plan, but then rehash same plan at a later date to take advantage of a new handset offer and re-sign to a new contract.

However, always check first with your provider, and if allowed, get the consultant to includes notes to that effect on your account, but also get the consultant's name and ID number etc, date and time of call for future reference.

If you don't ask, you don't get....

As for the other queries.... sorry can't assist here.

But good luck

When you receive this message it indicates your device is registering onto the BlackBerry network. In order to register onto this network you will require a Blackberry plan. In Australia you are unable to add Blackberry plans to pre-paid services which would be preventing most services from functioning correctly. Also if your device has US service books applied (i.e. BlackBerry Configuration files) it will be trying to point your any WAP services via RIM or your US carrier. You may need to manually configure the device with the Optus WAP APN to allow your services to function.
