strange behaviour after FW upgrade

Hi, I'm hoping someone can offer me some clues to fix this....

I upgraded my unlocked T-Mobile 8100 to Telstra's new FW - it still comes up with the T-Mobile splash screen, how do I get rid of this - is the only way to do a complete wipe of the handheld? If I then load Telstra FW, will it install the proprietary Telstra "info" in its place?

Also, the blue LED is staying on constantly, only flicking off occasionally (I have also set the Bluetooth LED function off) but I think this is related to the "Autolock ver0.5" application; I have deleted this and it seems to fix the problem (after a battery pull)

Regards,
Brian

I Finally found the answer to question 1 - no dice, I'm stuck with T-Mobile splash screen forever it seems. Oh well, it still works a treat.

I did manage to update the FW to ver ~.69 and it seems to run better than ~.55, no lag on first start at all. I'm not sure about some of the settings though, I'm sure I used to get emails from my three accounts in the generic "messages" folder but it's not happening now - and I have re-sent the service books succesfully....

Email Reconciliation settings in the Messages folder only allows entry of one email address, does anyone know if this is normal and is it the cause of the problem?

Hi Brian,

If you have three accounts configured in you BIS account you should see three selectable accounts at the top of the Email Reconciliation page. Ensure that you select on the email address listed at the top and see if you are able to select an alternative email address. Also ensure you restart the by removing and then reinserting the battery and then resend the service books.

Thanks,

Gary

That seems to have done the trick, thanks!!

I suspect I know the answer to this next question, but I don't suppose there is any way to get the BB to retrieve emails received before the upgrade (other than re-forwarding them to myself)? there are quite a few I would like to refer to as needed but can't seem to get the BB to re-grab them. I'm on BIS with the main account being gmail and using Outlook on the PC ...

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Unfortunately the only way to restore old messages during the upgrade process is to ensure you select the backup option which restores the data after the upgrade. Normally I take a manual backup prior to performing any firmware upgrades so I can selectively restore data once the update is complete.

That's strange then, I'm sure I did select the backup option & I'm only retrieving any emails sent since the upgrade... I guess I may have stuffed my chances of simply restoring from my manual backup, as I've received a few emails since doing the upgrade that would not be captured in the backup...... rats.... do you think it's still worth a try or am I just likely to end up in a worse position?

I have seen a number of devices fail when retiring the messages database back to the device, this may have been caused by some corrupt data. Personally it may be best to leave the device and start fresh as it will also free up memory on your device.

NO worries, now I know this I can use it in the future. For the moment I will leave it, any important notes I will just re-forward.

I also have a ("non-technical") friend on Optus who is reluctant to do the upgrade as they have tons of emails they use as reference, which they don't want to lose from the handheld - I will let them know about the manual backup & restore option, & see if that gives them enough reassurance to try..... at their own risk, of course (whistles nonchalantly)

By the way, thanks for all the hours you put in to address these diverse queries, when I see the work you put into maintaining this forum I'm impressed and grateful (also amazed at how little sleep you must get )

Cheers,
Brian
