Updating pearl - complicated

Okay guys I'm new to the world of blackberry and need some help. I got my dads old blackberry pearl and its running v4.2.1.66 and I would like to upgrade to the latest firmware version. My dad was using the Telstra network but I am using a 3 sim card in it. This means that I can’t receive emails etc at the moment as I have a standard cap not a blackberry one. I was wondering how I would go about downloading the latest firmware; I have already downloaded and installed the latest desktop manager V4.6.

Also in a previous thread someone asked if the person needing help was using BIS or BES. As I am not receiving emails etc at the moment I guess I’m not on either.

Finally can I get 3 to recognise my pearl so I can receive emails etc if I want to.

Which model "pearl" do you have?
The latest model - 8130 has OS4.3. There are other models - 8100, 8110 and 8120 too.

For the latest legitimately downloadable OS - have a look at this forum. The top section has a series of stickies for the latest OS4.5 software.

I have a 8100....I was looking at some of the posts in the forum for the v4.5 software and some people seem to have had a few issues..... I was wondering whether it is safe to perform the upgrade and if any one has run into any issues.

Hi,

Below you will find the latest Telstra 4.5 firmware for the Blackberry Pearl. All you need to do is download the file and install it onto your PC running Desktop manager. Once you open Desktop Manager and connect the device you will be prompted to upgrade.

Is that software also correct for an 8120?

The above software is for an 8100 only. (Won't work on the 10 or 20)

What carrier did you purchase the 8120 from? If you post back with the details I will provide a link for the latest firmware.

The link above could not be accessed from my work computer, but ok from home. Work computer said website unavailable.

Telstra helpdesk suggested trying from different locations if issues, so obvioously they must have come acropss issues with access before

Rememer to check options for Update for Documents to Go upgrade at bottom of list if you want it installed.

Where can I find how to download the applicable v4.5 OS?

AT&T haven't posted a 4.5 firmware update for your device at this stage (AT&T Downloads). As an alternative you could consider installing another carrier's firmware, as an example please refer to the link below:
