Trouble with Gmail Synchronisation

I am connected with BIS, gmail account and Outlook which is set to get mail from the gmail account as well. Gmail and the blackberry work OK together, but mails sent from the Blackberry are not showing up in the Outlook Sent folder.... even though they appear in gmail - what should I be checking?

Hi,

I would assume Outlook isn't configured to sync your Gmail accounts sent items?

Thanks,

Gary

I think I have set it up correctly, I have re-applied the POP settings in gmail (which claimed it was active anyway but what the hell), that has sent through a heap of duplicates, now upon testing the process again, I'm still not getting emails I send from the BB - even though ones I send from the gmail interface are being picked up OK....?!?

I have replicated your configuration and can confirm emails sent from the Blackberry are not downloaded to Outlook. I can now confirm that this function won't work due to the way the gmail operates which is outlined below:

"Gmail webmail service stores all email messages in one central source. Email messages are sorted using a Hidden and Visible Labelling system. The labels for the links on the left side of the Gmail webmail service graphic user interface, such as the Inbox, Drafts, and Sent Mail, use hidden labels on each of the email messages. This allows the email messages to be viewed as though they are in separate folders.

The BlackBerry Internet Service retrieves email messages from the Gmail Post Office Protocol 3(POP3) server. POP3, by design, does not support the proprietary labelling system. As such, any email message that arrives in the Inbox of the Gmail POP3 server (including sent email messages) appears as a new email message and is redirected to the BlackBerry smartphone."

In your situation the emails being sent from the device and being delivered to the Gmail sent folder but they aren't in a format allow POP to detect it as a new item.

Thanks Gary, it's nice to know it's not me... and thank you for the in depth information, it helps me to understand much better what's going on.

Would using IMAP be any better or would the same situation apply?

Cheers,
Brian

I believe the same situation would apply.
