Blackberry 8100 Optus MMS

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could answer this question for me as it is apparent that no-one at optus really has a clue.

My main question is can the 8100 send MMS messages over the regular GSM network without the need for some special data / BB plan crap

My wife has the 8100 on the optus network and for some reason she is not able to send MMS messages. she has the lower case "gprs" on the screen and i have been told that unless she has the "GPRS" on the upper right corner she is not able to send MMS from the 8100 on the standard 79 cap plans (she is on the regular NON BB and NON business plan).

to rectify the problem we were told she could get a $9.90 "pay as you go cap" that would allow her to send MMS... abd everything was going great, until i realised that they were actually charging me $30 for a larger data plan, anyways i have since been told that the $9.90 plan is not available for some crap on her plan thats why they were chargin me more to get the job done. My main question is can the 8100 send MMS messages over the regular GSM network without the need for some special data / BB plan crap.

sorry for rambling on a bit.

Hi,

If you go to "Options > Advanced Options > Service Book" do you have a MMS Client service book present? In theory if you have WAP & MMS enabled on your account it should Send\Receive MMS.

Thanks,

Gary

Hi,

If i put the sim card into another phone i am able to send MMS messages without any issue. I believe the problem is that BB need a data plan added to the account to be able send MMS mesaages, but i cant see the point seeing any other device doesnt have an issue.

thanks
Greg

I have dealt with a case on one person who bought a BlackBerry through a normal plan with Optus.(She really just wanted it for the handset and not the data/email capabilities so did not get a BlackBerry data plan included). When she realized she could not have MMS capability (as she had with her old Nokia), she contacted Optus and they put her on a data plan for free so she could use MMS. Maybe worth a shot...
