Address book leaving out some contacts when syncing

Hi,

After our discussion about multiple address books and categories I set this up on my Pearl and it worked perfectly. I then did the same for the CEO and now he does not have all the contacts that are in the Contacts folder in his MS Outlook. It seems to randomly leave some out. I have tried deleting the contact list in Outlook (it is a large company contact list), copying it to his contact folder again, assigning all the contacts a category of business again. But it again left the same contacts out. I have looked at two of these contacts but they do not seem to differ in any way from the others. Perhaps I should delete the contact list, let the phone sync so that there is nothing in his BB address book and then copy over again so that it starts completely afresh. Has anyone else had this problem?

Any suggestions. I will need to update his firmware as well as his is an old version.

Regards

Hi,

How many contacts is it missing? Are some of these contacts actually distribution groups?

Thanks,

Gary

Question Address book leaving out some contacts

I have not done a complete reconciliation as there are nearly 2000 contacts. Some of the contacts are distribution lists and I did not check if they had synched. The two contacts that we know did not sync are not distribution lists. There may be others that did not sync, but the CEO noticed these two particularly as he needed to use both of these and they weren't there (Murphy's law)!. It is not noticeable that there are others missing as if you scroll through it looks complete.

I have checked mine and there do not seem to be any missing that I can see, but only checked about the first 20, and I do have the ones that are missing from the CEOs phone, however when I sort by business category it is including many (but not all) of my personal contacts that definitely only have the category of personal. I have checked on Outlook and on the phone and they definitely do not have a business category. It is as though the business category being first on the list is the master, if I click on personal I just see the personal ones, but business gives both - well almost, because not all the personal are on there. I cannot work out what it is doing, it makes no sense.

Now that we have set up the filter and categories, there does not seem to be any way to remove the filter. What if we have two categories and we decide that we just want them all in one long list. Can we turn off filtering?

The CEOs firmware is old v4.2.1.101, so I will update this when he comes back (is away for a week). I don't know if this would cause the problem.

Regards

Very confused

At this stage a Blackberry device is unable to synchronize distribution lists to the device. If you open the Address Book on his device press the menu button and select Options, then you should see the total number of contacts on the device. Just compare this figure to the number of contacts in Outlook (when you are in contacts in Outlook the item count is listed in the bottom left). It would be worth upgrading the firmware as it provides better contacts support. If you still have issues after the firmware upgrade we need to clean up the contacts (i.e. remove invalid characters, ensure there are no blank contacts) and then use a hidden code to wipe the device contacts and load a fresh copy from the server.

address book leaving out some contacts

Thankyou,

When he returns next week, I will upgrade the firmware and then we may need to do as you say and wipe the contacts and try again. But I will check the numbers as you suggest.

I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks very much
