BlackBerry hosted email address becomes invalid

Environment- BlackBerry® Internet Service 2.4
Note: To determine which version of the BlackBerry Internet Service is being used, see
KB04989.
Problem
The BlackBerry smartphone user's BlackBerry email address (*.blackberry.net) becomes invalid when the BlackBerry Internet Service account type is changed from an automatic login account to a username and password account.
Cause
When the BlackBerry email address is created from the BlackBerry smartphone, the BlackBerry smartphone user is prompted to create a password. If the BlackBerry smartphone user then changes the account type from an automatic login account to a username and password account, the BlackBerry Internet Service will prompt for the BlackBerry email address password. If the password is not typed correctly, it will cause the BlackBerry email address to become invalid.
Resolution
To validate the BlackBerry email address from the BlackBerry smartphone, complete the following steps:
- From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click E-mail Settings.
- Click Services.
- Click Email Accounts.
- Click Validate next to the BlackBerry email address.
- Type the password for the BlackBerry email address.
This will validate the BlackBerry email address. If the BlackBerry smartphone user does not know the BlackBerry email address password, the
Forgot Password link in the E-mail Settings application can be used to have the password sent to the BlackBerry smartphone.
Additional Information
In the situation described earlier, the invalid BlackBerry email address cannot be deleted from the BlackBerry Internet Service account; the option to delete it is not present.
