Unable to send email messages from the BlackBerry hosted email address

Unable to send email messages from the BlackBerry hosted email address

Doc ID : KB13425
Last Modified : 2007-06-06
Document Type : Support

Environment
  • BlackBerry® Internet Service 2.3
Note: To determine which version of BlackBerry Internet Service you are using, see KB04989.

Problem

The BlackBerry device user is unable to send email messages from the BlackBerry Internet Service hosted email address.

Cause

The BlackBerry Internet Service will not parse a trailing decimal (".") at the end of an email address.

If the recipient's email address has a trailing decimal, then the message will be returned with a non-delivery response that is similar to the following:
From: "Mail Delivery System"
MAILER-DAEMON@smtp##.bis.na.blackberry.com
Date: ## Jun 2007 ##:##:##
To: <hostedaddress@service_provider>.blackberry.net>
Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Failure)
The following message to <address@domain.com.> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.1.2 - Bad destination host 'DNS Malformed Query Error looking up domain.com. (MX)
Resolution

Remove the trailing character from the recipient's email address in the Address Book or in the To field.
