On the server you have selected to the new load BlackBerry Enterprise Server download and install “Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1” which is available from the Microsoft Download site (a.k.a ExchangeMapiCdo.EXE). This will install the CDO and MAPI DLLs which are no longer available in Exchange 2007. This replaces the previous requirement to have Exchange System Manager installed as in Exchange 2000 or 2003 environments. The current download link is as follows: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e17e7f31-079a-43a9-bff2-0a110307611e&DisplayLang=en
2. Log onto your Exchange 2007 Server using an account which has permissions to create an account. Open the Exchange Management Console and create a service account called BESadmin.
3. From the Exchange 2007 server open the “Exchange Management Shell” which can be found in the Exchange program group. From EMS run the following two scripts to set the delegate control and required permissions:
Sorry to disturb you again, but I just forgot to mention this point. My requirement is as follow.
Present Server:
BES 4.1, Windows 2003 , Exchange 2003
Proposed Server:
BES 4.1, Windows 2008, Exchange 2007
Details: We want to migrate our present BES 4.1 on Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 which is on Windows 2008.
According to me, I think , I need to perform following steps.
1) Get the machine ready with Windows 2008 and Exchange 2007 installed on it.
2) Then, I need to migrate BESAdmin A/C from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007
3) Then as per your steps, will give permissions to BESAdmin from Mgmt Shell
4) Then I will take backup of MSDE from old BES and restore it to new BES
5) Then, I will start installing BES on new server
6) After that, will follow configuration steps
7) Then, will move all mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007
Queries:
1) Will I require new PIN or License to install BES on new server
2) After installing BES on new server and migrating mailboxes to Exch 2007, how I will migrate users from old BES to new BES
I would like to request you to refer the above steps and lemme know the best suitable way to do this migration..Kindly lemme know if I am missing anything...

Hi,
Two issues I can see is that Windows 2008 is not fully supported and you really shouldn't install BES on an Exchange 2007 server. Also when you move the database it moves all the licensing information and users.

Correct, Windows 2008 in not supported on the current versions of BES. So what you will need to do is look for an alternative server that is running server 2003 or install Hyper-V on Windows 2008. If you install Hyper-V you can setup a virtual server running Server 2003 on which you can install the BES.

Hey Gary,
As we wanna cut down the servers, can we install BES 4.1 on Exchange 2007 which is on Windows 2003 64 bit???
Does it support on 64 bit H/W?? And, I hope we can use MSDE in this as well.

If you install BES on your Exchange 2007 server you will have issues which may even result in Exchange services not functioning. The most common issue is that the BlackBerry install which changes IIS from 64Bit to 32Bit mode which will stop some Exchange services from functioning (e.g. OWA). You can install BES on a separate 64bit server but you should not install it on the Exchange server.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. Well, I wanna confirm one more thing..
1) We are having four SMTP domains.
2) For so,e users @abc.com is primary SMTP and for some users @xyz.com is primary SMTP. Other two SMTP will be alias.
3) We are going to have two Exchange Servers
4) In this case, can you just tell me do we require two BES servers or one will do??
5) If @abc.com users are using first Exch server and @xyz.com users are using second Exch Server, what changes we require??
I mean, even users are having different Primary SMTP add, one BES server will server the purpose or do I require anything else??
Any special configuration or so?? Kindly lemme know..

Even when your Exchange servers are configured for multiple email domains you only need one BES if they are part of the same Exchange Domain.
