Help Desk Trouble Shooting Tip

Hi Members,

I just wanted to share with everyone a quick tip to help troubleshoot BlackBerry email issues. When an end user calls saying they aren’t receiving emails you can send them a test email with <confirm> at the beginning of the subject line (as seen below). When the Blackberry device receives a message with this in the beginning of the subject field, it knows to send an automatic reply to the sender with a confirmation that it has received the message.

Test Email with confirm requested

Reply Message received from the device

Your message:

TO: anyone@ blackberryuser.com.au

SENT: Fri Oct 27 13:32:22 2006

AUS Eastern Standard Time

SUBJECT: <confirm> Test Email

has been delivered to the recipient's BlackBerry Handheld.

You can try <$confirm, removeondelivery> in the subject line as this will delete the test email for the mail server after it emails you a receipt confirmation (it will still remain on the device).

Also you can try the Smart System Codes to quickly retrieve info from the end users or device:

<$confirm, removeondelivery> was designed to only remove the message from that mail server, currently there is no way to also remove the message from the device. I will make some enquires but it may be difficult obtaining this type of information from RIM.
