BES not pushing all emails

Recently I've started having issues receiving emails on my Blackberry. We are using BES and up until now I have never noticed an issue.

I do have client (on this machine only) rules set up in outlook to move emails to personal (pst) folders on my laptop but I've had that for the last year.

These are not server side rules and the folders are local to my laptop so I do not believe that the information on folder redirection applies.

I know that BIS will not push these emails but from what I've read BES should.

What is really strange is that it is intermittent. This morning I sent 10 emails in a row from gmail; all of them were immediately moved to my personal folder in outlook 2003. Of these 10 emails 5 of them were pushed to my Blackberry. I did the same test later in the day with 5 emails and only 1 was pushed to my blackberry.

So far it seems that I receive all emails when outlook is shutdown so maybe it' a timing issue.

Another thing I've noticed recently is that I used to get emails on my Blackberry about 30 seconds to 1 minute before they would show up in outlook (over a VPN); now I usually get them in outlook first.

Any advice I could give to my support team would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What I suspect is happening is that
- Email arrive in your inbox
- BES polls your inbox on the exchange server, see new mail & start to push them
- your outlook client syncs & grabs the new emails
- your outlook client runs the rules & moves them to the PST
- your outlook client updates the exchange server & removes them from the inbox.
- They are removed whilst the BES is polling, thus only some are pushed to your Blackberry

It sounds like they've change the polling time on the Outlook client to be more regular. (maybe before it was every 5mins, now it's 1min)

Hi,

BES doesn't support emails that are moved to PST files are they are technically being moved offline (similar to a hard delete). When an email has been moved offline it is removed from your Exchange server which is all the BlackBerry server has access to. What you can do is install BlackBerry Desktop Manager and configure the "Email Reconciliation" option to synchronize with the PST file. This option unfortunately will require the device to be periodically connected and synchronized via cable.

Thanks,

Gary

I do get the majority of my emails just not all of them. I've had my Laptop open all day connected to our VPN and only 8 out of 70 emails have not be pushed to my phone. It really seams like a timing issue with how often outlook checks my inbox. I've changed the polling time on my client to 5 min but that doesn't make any difference. Any test email I send to my address is in outlook and moved to my various pst files within 30 seconds of send the email.

All I can recommend in your situation is to delete the automatically rule that moves your items to a PST. Then in Outlook go to "Tools > Options > Other > Auto Archive" and configure it to move emails older the X amount of time to a PST. This can be configured to run each day or month etc. If you can post back further info on why you need to move all your emails to a PST we may be able to provide other alternatives.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I'm just going to have to get in the habit of disconnecting outlook when I leave my laptop. ;-)

The main reason I move everything to PSTs is that I get on average about 250 emails a day and having everything in my inbox would be a nightmare to manage since some require an immediate response.

Yeah...it is so called as "Hard Delete Reconciliation". You have no choice if they turned ON this feature. You can try the suggestion from GaryCutri or try this simple steps...

On your BlackBerry, go into the "Messages". Press the menu button and go to “Options”.

Find “Email Reconciliation” and turn OFF the “Wireless Reconciliation”.

Wireless email will still be delivered to your handheld but when a message is deleted on your PC, it will not reflect back to your BlackBerry.

If you are not satisfied with this changes, you can simply turn ON the “Wireless Reconciliation”.
