Sender receives a bounce-back message referencing a BlackBerry hosted email address

Sender receives a bounce-back message referencing a BlackBerry hosted email address

Doc ID : KB10951
Last Modified : 2007-10-15
Document Type : Support

Environment
  • BlackBerry® Internet Service
Problem

The sender of an email message receives the following bounce-back message when sending an email message to an email account that was formerly integrated with the BlackBerry Internet Service:

The following message to <username@serviceprovider.blackberry.net> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.1.0 - Unknown address error 554-'5.7.1 Invalid Recipient

Cause

Summary of Causes

This issue may be caused by one of the following.
  1. The BlackBerry smartphone user had set up a forwarding rule to forward email messages to a BlackBerry Internet Service hosted email address. That forwarding rule is still active even though the BlackBerry Internet Service hosted email address is not active.
  2. The recipient's email address has been typed incorrectly.
Resolution

Complete the appropriate resolution for the cause.

Cause 1

The BlackBerry smartphone user had set up a forwarding rule to forward email messages to a BlackBerry Internet Service hosted email address. That forwarding rule is still active even though the BlackBerry Internet Service hosted email address is not active.

Resolution

If the forwarding rule is the desired delivery method of email messages to the BlackBerry smartphone, contact the administrator of the email account and request that the forwarding rule be changed to the new BlackBerry hosted email address. If this is not the desired delivery method, contact the administrator of the email account to have the forwarding rule deleted.

Note: If the BlackBerry smartphone user would prefer not to create a BlackBerry hosted email address, the forwarding rule should be deleted and the email account should be integrated into the BlackBerry Internet Service using Post Office Protocol (POP3), Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP), Microsoft® Outlook® Web Access, or BlackBerry® Mail Connector. For instructions, see KB02189.

Cause 2

The recipient's email address has been typed incorrectly.

Resolution

Check the spelling of the recipient's address and attempt to send the email message again.
