Mailbox showing (-5) unread messages

I have a client using a Blackberry 8700G on Telstra with BIS. His attached email account is a work address using exchange. In his mailbox on the device for this email address it is showing -5 unread messages.

Any info as to what may be causing this.

Normally this issue is caused by old unread items that have been purged from the device. The first thing to try is to reset the BlackBerry device by removing and replacing the battery. Please post back if this doesn't resolve the issue.

Thanks....this has appeared to clear it. Will advise if it reappears
