Connection failure to Blackberry server

Hi there

this is my first post and I hope someone call help.

When a Blackberrry is able to have a GRPS connection with an operator, but it is not able to conect to the mail server, what are the possible options that it could go wrong?

Hi,

First you need to ensure that you have a BlackBerry plan added to your account (a standard data plan won't work). When you select your BlackBerry plan you need to specify weather it's being connected to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) or the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS). If you already have a BlackBerry plan it is very common that the provider has configured it incorrectly (e.g. BIS instead of BES etc).

Thanks,

Gary

gary

thanks for the reply.

Assuming, they already signed up with a blackberry plan.

What if the user is roaming and used his Blackberry to retrieve his email, how does data flow works?

Does the Blackberry has to tunnel back to the home country BIS to retrieve the email ?

I am trying to narrow down what could go wrong?

thanks in advance

When a user is roaming and assuming the roaming carrier has BlackBerry services you are able to connect back to your BES or BIS client. The only concern is that ALL data whilst roaming is charged at 1.5 to 2 cents per KB.

Hi

thanks for the email.

I was looking for some documentation that I can explain to others about how Blackberry would work when roaming.

I know that in roaming, there are a lot of factors
a. the Roaming operator GPRS network
b. the connectivity between the roaming operator and the home operator's GRX
c. and then the home operator connectivity to the client's BES

Do you know where I can get one that shows me an overall view?

thanks for all your help

Regardless of the carrier you are connected to all devices connect back to the RIM infrastructure in Canada, North America or London depending on location (e.g. All carriers world wide use the same service just rebranded by the local carrier).
