Wireles Address Book Synchronisation problem

Good afternoon. We have inherited from a previous IT support provider a Lotus Notes/Blackberry Enterprise Manager setup. I have some user's address books which are synching and some that don't.
  • The users are not roaming
  • A shared folder has been created on the mail server with a copy of the users names.nsf files placed
  • The properties for the user in BES> PIM Sync> Address Book have had the server location and relative path location entered

Every user's settings appears to be the same on the BES and Domino Server. Am I missing something on the user's Lotus Notes configuration...? Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Try from Notes,
in Mail, goto Action -> Synchronise Addressbook.

I'm certainly not a Domino admin, but my understanding is that
- Using Roaming means it synch automatically
- Non roaming, you must either manually synch (liek above) or create a notes user template thingy which does it automatically (either when they log off or every so often).

Thanks for your suggestion. If the user goes to Actions> Synchronise Address Book, this does not synch their LN address book to the Blackberry. As mentioned earlier, some users are working and some are not so there must be some configuration somewhere I am missing. I can confirm that a user whose address book is not synchronsing does on their Blackberry have the Address Book> Options> Wireless Synchronisation selected as "Yes".

Hi,

In order for your configuration to work you need to ensue synchronisation is occur from the Desktop to the names.nsf in the shared location. Normally without configuration a synchronization schedule isn't set so this may need to be configured manually. If possible it is best practice to set the user up with a roaming profile and ensure a synch schedule on Notes is set to ensure constant updates (e.g. every 2 hours).

Thanks,

Gary

Hi Gary,

Do you mean in the user's LN, go to File> Preferences> Location Preferences> Replication and setting it up there..? If I am wrong, please let me know here I need to go to manually set up this synchronisation.

I had attempted to make the users Roaming but also ran into somes issues there in relation to the connection document so figured it would be easier if I could just get this to work.

Cheers

Just a thought,

Are users divided into different User Groups?
You can set group PIM settings (click on User Groups, then in the RH window, select a group & then in Task (the pane below) click Edit Group Templates.

Hi,

No, unfortunately no user groups have been created. All I can think is that there must be some setting in the User's LN Client.

All I can suggest is to compare the server settings and also the clients Notes configuration for these users. It would be ideal to resolve the Roaming profile issue as this will provide a simple solution for the Blackberry user’s long term.
