Old messages being re-sent to user

Hi all
I have a recurring problem with one particular user. I also note that this may also be happening with other users but they haven't notified me that they are receiving re-sent emails. This could be a major concern as most of my users are senior managers.

Domino 7.0.1 / BES 4.1.3.16 / Blackberry Pearl 8100 v4.2.1.66

User A advised me a couple of months ago that he received a large number of emails from 6 months prior. There was no pattern as to what emails were re-sent ie a mixture of internal and external emails, emails with and without attachments.
After various attempts at resolving this using the KBase article "Blackberry Wireless Reconciliation Problem", we finally wiped the handheld, deleted all trace of him from the BES server (BES account and state databases), re-activated the user and all appeared OK.

Until yesterday, when he reported receiving re-sent emails from July and August. Again, there was no pattern to the emails that were sent.

The following extract from the Notes log shows some of the error/warning messages. The three lines marked in bold relate to one message.
There were many "prior to activation" and many "Cancelling expired" messages. These seem to relate to emails and calendar items.

In the user's mail file, I've found some of the suspect emails and they appear to have been added to the mail file at the 12:00:xx PM time even though they were created in July or August.

Any clues, the Knowledgebase doesn't seem to help with this problem.

Thanks

Hi,

The first thing I would recommend is upgrading to BES Service Pack 6 as there are a number of known issues with your version. Once upgraded please let us know if the issue has been resolved or you require further assistance.

Thanks,

Gary

We have some users with this same exact problem, old mail (2-3 months old to 2-3 years old!!!) showing up in mass on users bb. We are running
GroupWise 7.0.3 / BES 4.1.3 / BlackBerry 8700...so nothing in common really...

Have you had any luck in resolving?....

I have reported to RIM but waiting for feedback

This issue can be caused by database or device corruption. The best way (it may seem a little extreme) to resolve this issue is to wipe the handheld and delete the user from the BES. Once removed activate the user as if they were a new user.

As noted, we've already blown away the handheld and the user and started over.
We haven't upgraded the server yet.

As an aside, is there a way of deleting expired messages? I know I can purge pending messages, but can I delete expired messages?

The expired messages just remain as a log entry on a user or the server stats and then will no longer be processed. To clear these records from a user just select their name in BlackBerry Manager and in the properties window below select Service Control & Customization > Clear Statistics.
