Domino Server Upgrade on BES server

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum but thought it would be the right place to ask questions about upgrading domino on a BES Windows 2003 server. Currently our BES server (BES 4.1.6) is running Domino 6.5.3 and I am planning to upgrade it to 7.0.3 to get it ready for BES 5. Just a couple of questions i'd like to clarify.

* Is there any special processes that has to carried out regarding the domino upgrade? Or is it just like any Domino Server Upgrade?
* Do I have to reinstall BES after upgrading Domino?
* What notes.ini settings have to be retained after upgrading Domino?

This is the first time I am upgrading Domino on a BES server so I just want to get as much info before I proceed.

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks!

here's the short article

View Document

---------------------------------------------
Overview

When you upgrade the IBM Lotus Domino Server, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server does not need to be reinstalled.

Additional Information

Before upgrading the IBM Lotus Domino Server, it is recommended that you backup the BlackBerry Configuration Database and the .\Lotus\Domino\Data folder.

For instructions on backing up the BlackBerry Configuration Database, see KB10292.
-----------------------------------------

When we did it a few months ago, we stopped Blackberry Services, then Domino services, made a copy of the Blackberry folder under the Domino Data directory (where the state databases are kept).

Then upgraded Domino.
Started the Domino service
Started the Blackberry services

and it hummed a long nicely.

Thanks for that info mate! Just another question? With the notes.ini, do you have retain any lines/parameters from the old one?

Hi,

If you perform a straight upgrade everything will function correctly after the update.

Thanks,

Gary

Sorry for bringing up this post again, but im performing just the domino server uprgade to 7.0.3 as well next week from 7.0.1, I know its straight forward but would like to know what will be the roll back plan be IF the change doesnt work? For example, if it needs to be uninstalled will this affect the blackberry server?

Cheers

You also run the full 7.0.3 version over the top of 7.0.1 right?

You to to:

1. Quit Domino
2. Backup the BES state databases from <drive>:\Lotus\Domino\Data\BES
3. Perform the upgrade
4. Reboot the server

Thanks Gary. In case of a rollback, and you had to uninstall domino 7.0.3 and reinstall 7.0.1, would you know if this would have any negative impact on the BES?

Cheers

If you have to rollback you need to ensure you have a copy of the BES state databases > Uninstall Domino > Reinstall the old version of Domino to the same file location > Place the BES state databases back into the correct location.
