Question Has anybody wrote BCP-611?

Hi,

Has anybody wrote and passed BCP-611 Designing and Deploying a BlackBerry Solution in an IBM Lotus Domino Environment ? Could you share the experience and advise the areas of concentration with all of us? What are some of the topics/key details to watch out and focus prior taking this exam?

From the Exam Guide, these are the tested sections:-

Section 1 - BlackBerry Enterprise Solution architecture
• Explain the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution architecture including its components and services
• Describe the process the BlackBerry Enterprise Server uses to optimize BlackBerry device user distribution

Comment: This should be straightforward with the BES components and the use of MaxTotalThreads and AltThreadModel registry to control thread vs handheld distributions.

Section 2 - Business needs analysis
• Given a customer’s requirements gathered from discussion, research and planning, decide which solution meets the requirements
• Given a client’s corporate policies, explain the implications for the design of the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution

Section 3 - Technology needs analysis
• Assess the existing network’s ability to support a BlackBerry Enterprise Server
• Determine hardware requirements (minimum vs. recommended) for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
• Analyse messaging system topology

Questons: I think section 2 and 3 will be assessed together. Any specific details we need to be aware/mremorize in terms of BES?

Section 4 - Design
• Given a scenario, determine how client factors impact the design of the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution
• Given a scenario, justify which BlackBerry Enterprise Server components to place inside the DMZ and which to place outside the DMZ
• Given a scenario, justify when to share BlackBerry Enterprise Server components
• Given a scenario, determine where to locate the BlackBerry Enterprise Servers and the BlackBerry Configuration Database

Comments: DMZ - Router only, all other components inside firewall. Locating BES as close as mail servers. Anything else to be aware?

Section 5 - Deployment
• Given a scenario, determine appropriate deployment roll-out options and implications

Question: Not very clear for this objective. Deployment of BlackBerry devices? 3rd party applications? etc...

Section 6 - Disaster recovery/high availability
• Given a scenario, determine the most appropriate disaster recovery option(s) and justify the decisions

Comments: Should be straightforward. Cold-standby (cutover, same SRP ID) and warm-standby (different SRP ID) BES.

Section 7 - Installation and upgrade
• Given a scenario, determine if a customer’s environment meets the requirements for a BlackBerry Enterprise Solution and, if not, where it is lacking
• Given a scenario, justify which type of upgrade path to implement and its impact

Comments: I guess we must memorize all the system requirements. Upgrade paths include:- (1) in-place, (2) cutover and (3) phased (use additional SRP).

Section 8 - Performance
• Given a scenario, recommend design considerations for BlackBerry Enterprise Server performance and tuning including the tools used to measure performance
• Describe the performance impact that BlackBerry Enterprise Server, Microsoft SQL Server and ??Microsoft Exchange Server?? have on each other including the tools used to measure performance

Questions: Tools - SNMP, BESMon, PerfMon? Also think the people who prepare the exam guide just copied and pasted for the Domino paper (see ??Microsoft Exchange Server?? I tagged above.

Section 9 - Security
• Given a scenario, determine and justify the security design decisions for BlackBerry device user security
• Given a scenario, determine and justify the security design decisions for BlackBerry Enterprise Server security
• Given a scenario, determine the design implications for the exisiting security infrastructure

Comments: I guess areas will surrond PGP, S/MIME and Notes Native Encryptions on top of the BES' Triple DES and AES. Anything else?

Hi,

With any of the BlackBerry certifications I recommend that you attend an onsite training course which will provide you with all training material and access to a BES expert.

Thanks,

Gary
