Problem
The central processing unit (CPU) usage spikes to 100% when processing Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) signed email messages with large attachments.
Resolution
The development team has implemented code changes to reduce the time it takes the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to process an S/MIME signed email message with a large attachment from 6 minutes 11 seconds to 13 seconds; however, the CPU usage will still go to 100% for this 13 second period. This change is targeted for release on BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0 Service Pack 7 and software version 4.1 Service Pack 4.
Additional Information
When an email message with large attachments is sent to several BlackBerry smartphone users on the same BlackBerry Enterprise Server, non-responsive threads can occur. The BlackBerry smartphone users may no longer be able to send or receive email messages on the BlackBerry smarpthone after receiving this email message on their mailboxes. In order to solve the problem, the offending email message needs to be deleted from the BlackBerry smartphone users' mailbox.
