Hi gary,

just a question, so patch manager 2.5 will send the right version of the patch to the right devices?

Latest from RIM:

"For DST yes, you will need to patch the server, especially the Exchange System Manager in order to update the CDO.DLL file. You will also need to patch the devices. You will not need to move the users to a different server, you will only need to host the different version software on a different server. After further investigation I actually came to find that using a separate directory structure will also work, as long as you copy the Apploader folder to the new directory. For example:

On the same BlackBerry Enterprise Server, copy C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\ to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion_2\ and copy the Apploader directory. Run the index from the new location (Research In Motion_2)."

How to prepare the BES for Microsoft Exchange to support DST changes in 2008

Thank you all for your input.

My company support a global company that have 7 BES servers and approximately 2500 handhelds.

We realised what we were doing incorrectly and that was we were installing the Microsoft Exchange patch (KB943068). We are lucky to have a test BES server and we installed the Windows O/S patch and all was good, we installed the Exchange patch and all was out by 1hr. We updated the SQL database and all was good...we reversed our installs....and removed the Exchange patch and all was good.

The original RIM article does not clearly state what to do with the Exchange patch and should have clearly stated that it only needs to be applied to Exchange servers (and in reality, only on Front-End Servers).

On another note, in Australia, we have confirmed with out telco, that if the handheld is version 4.2.x and the SQL database is update, then you do not need to deploy the DST patch to those handhelds. We have also done our own testing to confirm this.

Regards

Michael

Michael -

do you have an email that states from the telco about the v4.2 devices not needing the patch?

Thanks,
Elwyn.

I had an answer to the two version issue on another forum:

"I had this same problem and called RIM. Here's the solution:

Under your applications share create a folder for each patch version.
Extract the patch files to the appropriate folder.
Edit the .alx file for each patch
- edit the application id="net_rim_bb_timezoneupdate_<version>" for each of the two .alx files
reindex the apploader.

You should be able to then create your software configs."

this worked...

Hi,

I'm trying to install the DST patches on our BES server.

First of all I am trying to upgrade to 4.0 SP7. We are currently using 4.0.3.7 but everytime I try to upgrade I get the following error message:

The version of the Blackberry Enterprise Installer will only upgrade from a previous installation with version 4.0.0 or higher. No such installation has been detected on the system. Setup will now exit.

Any ideas? What have I missed?

Cheers,

Jamie
