Hi,

In order to migrate users from one BES to another you need to perform the following:

1. Delete the user from the old BES
2. Wipe your device via Options > Security Options > General Settings > Press the menu button and select "Wipe Handheld"
3. Add the user onto the new BES and set an activation password
4. On the device ensure you have set the date\time and confirm that you have capital EDGE or GPRS. Then go to Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation and activate the device (Alternatively use the device setup wizard).

Thanks,

Gary

Is there a way to do this without losing all of their settings? The method you describe won't bring over any of their configured settings or any of history like Call Logs. It would be like provisioning him from scratch like the first time he got his Blackberry. Isn't there a way to export the user from one BES and then import him to the other?

If you want to easily move users from one BES to another you need to have both servers using the same BESmgmt database. Alternatively if you wanted to move all your users to the new server you should have performed a "Knife-edge" cutover which moves all the users and settings. Is your new server in the same domain and are you planning on moving all users?

No this is just a geographic move for the user. Moving from our Tampa office to our Denver one. We are going to move his Exchange mailbox and then move him the Denver BES. So it's only this one user and possibly others in the future when they move from office to office. thanks...

If it is just for one user you will still have to wipe the device and reactivate but you can backup and restore the device data. If you get the user to connect the device to a PC running BlackBerry Desktop Manager you can use the Backup option to create a backup file. Once you wipe your device you can use the Desktop Managers Advanced Restore option to restore items before activating onto the new BES.

Moving a user from one BES to another

We were hoping not to use the BB Desktop software and we prefer to stay as wireless as possible. I was just hoping there was a way to migrate the user settings via the BES. Which goes to my earlier question about a backup app that will copy to the SD card. But it appears that no one makes one for the Blackberry which seems odd since there are several for Palm. But I'll keep searching. thanks...
