BlackBerry Enterprise Server may not work correctly in Microsoft Exchange 2007 environments without public folders
Doc ID : KB15582
Last Modified : 2008-08-07
Document Type : Support
Environment
- BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.1 Service Pack 5 (4.1.5) for Microsoft® Exchange
- Microsoft® Exchange Server 2007
- CDO.dll file version 06.06.7940 and later
Problem
The following error message appears in the BlackBerry Messaging Agent (MAGT) log entry during calendar operations:
[30002] (12/01 15:13:16.391):{0x664} Server = exchange01, Mailbox = /o=Domain/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn=Recipients/cn=exchange01 Description = The Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance. [Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store - [MAPI_E_FAILONEPROVIDER(8004011D)]]
Cause
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 can be installed without public folders for environments with Microsoft® Outlook® 2007 and later as the messaging application. By default, the BlackBerry Enterprise Server requires public folder access. If public folders are not present, some functionality may be lost.
Resolution
Complete one of the following resolutions:
Resolution 1
Create a public folder storage group and database on the Microsoft Exchange Server. For more information on installing public folders in a Microsoft Exchange 2007 environment, visit the
Microsoft Help and Support website.
Note: This resolution may be difficult to undo if you decide not to have public folders in your Microsoft Exchange environment.
Resolution 2
Note: BlackBerry smartphone users will not be able to use the Free/Busy lookup Calendar function on their BlackBerry smartphones. Public folders are required for this feature to work.
Warning: The following procedure involves modifying the computer registry. This can cause substantial damage to the Windows® operating system. Document and back up the registry entries prior to implementing any changes.
Complete the following steps:
- Configure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to connect to the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 without requiring public folders.
- Open the Registry Editor.
- Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Messaging Subsystem\CDO.
- Within the registry key, create a Dword called Ignore No PF and assign it a decimal value of 1.
- Save the changes and then close the Registry Editor.
- Restart the BlackBerry Enterprise Server services.
- Restart BlackBerry Manager.
Important: Restarting certain BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry smartphones. For more information, see
KB04789.
No change is required for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 or Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 with public folders. If you are using Microsoft Exchange with public folders, and a similar error is present, see
KB00886.
