I recently followed the guide for installing BES with Server 2008 and Exchange 2007. I have BES installed on a sepearte Server 2003 machine. I'm able to add the user in Blackberry Manager, I receive the email and then proceed to activate on the handheld. When I do it just sits at Activating email@email.com... I do receive the email with the etp.dat file, but it stays in the inbox and nothing happens after that. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I've gone back and made sure each step was followed. One problem I am running into is granting permissions for Send As under my mailbox name. I do this, but after a certain period of time the permissions are no longer there. So it seems as if they aren't taking. I've changed it multiple times, and I close everything and check it again and it is right. But after I come back later it is gone completely. Unrelated to that, my Server 2003 machine is also a domain controller, but I don't think that should cause any problems. I don't know why the security setting wouldnt stay.
I assume your account is a Domain Admin? If this is the case please follow my guide in the link below (step 3: dsacls):
Unlisted message error or Desktop email program unable to submit message

I am using Blackberry Professional Software Express, which is basically a 1 license version (if this makes a difference). I went ahead and followed your send as guide, and the ACL's are staying. But I still cant get past the activation screen. I am getting the following errors in Event Viewer when I generate and send an email to my user account:Event ID 20265, SOURCE=BlackBerry Messaging Agent JUPITER Agent 1 {Ryan@mydomain.us} MAPIMailbox::CreateSearchFolder - Open Entry (0x80070005) failed
along with:
Event ID 20154, User Ryan not started.
BlackBerry Device: Curve 8900
Device Firmware: 5.0.0.681
Email Configuration: BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS)
Mobile Carrier & location: Vodafone
The event ID: User <username> not started is because:
The ETP.dat activation email message is not received by the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, even though the BlackBerry Enterprise Server administration account permissions are correct.
And what you could try to do is set a static mailbox agent for the affected BlackBerry smartphone user account by completing the following steps:
In BlackBerry Manager, click the BlackBerry smartphone user account -> Edit Properties -> Advanced
And set the Enable static mailbox agent option to True.
Click the affected BlackBerry smartphone user account, expand the Account task, and click Reload user.
After the BlackBerry smartphone user account has been successfully activated, repeat the tasks in step 1, but set the Enable static mailbox agent option to False.
You will also need to ensure you re-run the following command from the shell:
get-mailboxserver <mail_server_name> | add-adpermission -user BESadmin -accessrights GenericRead, GenericWrite -extendedrights Send-As, Receive-As, ms-Exch-Store-Admin
Then restart the BES and then from BlackBerry Manager select the user and from the Account menu select Reload User.

I don't seem to have any Advanced option under user properties...I wonder if this may be due to the express version Im using. Im about ready to go back to 2003 just to save myself the hassle. Any other ideas are appreciated.
Do you have Public Folders enabled with an OAB in Exchange 2007? Also make sure the user isn't hidden from the GAL and I am assuming you have reapplied the permissions as stated above?
If possible can you please connect the device directly to the BES via USB and then from BlackBerry Manager right mouse click the user and select assign device.
