Hi,

I recommend that you setup a new BES 5.0.1 server (with a new database) and then use the "Blackberry Transporter Service" (this seamlessly moves users from BES 4\4.1 to 5.0.x) to move users over to your new BES. Using this method you can setup the new system and then test a few users before moving all existing users over.

Thanks,

Gary

We have quite a number of users runnings on Blackberry Device Software v4.3.0 ~ Not supported by Blackberry Enterprise Transporter with conditions:

1. What are the conditions?
2. What is the best approach to migrate these users (besides than have to migrate manually i.e. re-create account, re-sync, which is not preferable)?
Device firmware 4.3 is unable to store more than one I.T Policy at a time so when you move 4.3 user don't specify a I.T Policy in the Transporter Service. (you should do this after the users have been moved.)

We will setup a BES test environment on VM:
1. Can we use current CAL & SRP Key, or need to request a temp CAL & SRP key from Blackberry Vendor?
You will need a temp SRP ID\Auth Key but you can use your existing CALs. Just download the 60 day trial of BES 5.0 and the SRP ID\Auth Key provided and this will give you 60 days to test the new environment. Once you migrate all you users you can shutdown the old BES (ensure it is completly disabled or uninstalled) and then transfer the SRP ID\Auth Key to the new BES.

For installation sequence:
1. It is necessary to install ESM prior the installation of BES v5.0 SP1?
You don't need to install ESM you just need to install “Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1”.

What is the recommended Blackberry device software to be upgraded to in order to ensure it is supported in the new BES v5.0 SP1 infrastructure?

Regards,
All firmware versions from 4.0 onwards will work with BES 5.0.1 but only device capable of running firmware 5 (Bold 9000 and 9700) will have access to all the new features.

No, the 7100 can only go to firmware 4.2 and the 81xx\83xx\88xx can only go to firmware 4.5.

However i still need to enable the Application Loader icon so that it appears on the BlackBerry® Desktop Manager.

I am having difficulty looking for this default IT policy in BB Enterprise server v4.1.6, can you please shed some lights?
In your I.T Policy it is under "Desktop-Only Items > Show Application Loader".

No, when you upgrade the firmware it will backup the device > wipe the device > upgrade the firmware > restore the backup.
