How to update the Novell GroupWise Object API

How to update the Novell GroupWise Object API

Doc ID : KB04164
Last Modified : 2007-06-26
Document Type : How To

Environment
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server software version 4.0 and 4.1 for Novell® GroupWise®
  • Novell GroupWise Object application programming interface (API)
Background

All communication between the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and the Novell GroupWise system is handled by the Novell GroupWise Object API, which is included with the Novell GroupWise email client. BlackBerry Technical Support Services has found a number of issues to be resolved by applying the latest Field Test File update to the Novell GroupWise 6.5 email client.

IMPORTANT: While the improvements contained in the updates are cumulative and are normally beneficial, they are not all fully certified by Research In Motion (RIM).

Note: Previous updates to the Novell GroupWise Object API only required an update to the gwcma1.dll file. With the latest versions of the Novell GroupWise Object API, a full installation of the Novell GroupWise email client is required.

Procedure

To update the Novell GroupWise Object API, complete the following steps:
  1. From the Novell Support Site, download the latest full version or Field Test File (FTF) for the Novell GroupWise 6.5 email client. It contains the current version of the Novell GroupWise Object API needed for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Note: BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.0 Service Pack 6, and 4.1 Service Pack 2 Hot Fix 1 and later both require the Novell GroupWise 6.5 Post SP6 Client rev 4 as a prerequisite.
The latest available versions available from are:
    1. Novell GroupWise 6.5.6 Update 2 Windows client 656up2
      Novell TID# 5004629

Warning: This version of the Novell GroupWise Client will only be able to connect to Novell GroupWise Post Offices which have not been updated to certain versions. See the following Novell Security Advisory for more information:
      Security Advisory
      Novell GroupWise 7.0.2/6.5.7 Security Vulnerability
      Novell TID# 3382383
    2. FTF: GroupWise 6.5 Post SP6 Client rev 4 Mult
      Novell TID# 2974707

Note: This download alone will not correctly install the Novell GroupWise client. This file can be used in conjunction with a Novell GroupWise 6.5 software distribution directory. If needed, the following full client download can be used in conjunction with the Field Test File to create an updated client installation.
      Novell GroupWise 6.5 SP6 Client Update 1 Multi-Lan
      Novell TID# 2974002
  2. Open the Microsoft® Windows® Services administrative tool.
  3. If you are using BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.1, stop the BlackBerry Controller service and the GroupWise service.
If you are using BlackBerry Enterprise Server software version 4.0, stop the BlackBerry Controller service.
  4. On the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, close BlackBerry Manager and the Novell GroupWise email client.
  5. Remove the Novell GroupWise email client version currently installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  6. Install the updated Novell GroupWise 6.5 email client obtained from the Novell web site. Note: You must select the US-English language when you install the Novell GroupWise email client.
  7. Start the service(s) that were stopped in step 3. Important: Restarting certain BlackBerry Enterprise Server services will delay email message delivery to BlackBerry devices. For more information, see KB04789.
  8. To make sure that the Novell GroupWise email client is operating correctly, launch Novell GroupWise and log in. Open the Address Book and verify that no errors are reported.
