BlackBerry Enterprise Server support for Novell GroupWise 7.0.3

Doc ID : KB15948
Last Modified : 2008-08-11
Document Type : What Is

Environment
  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server for Novell® GroupWise®
  • Novell® GroupWise® 7.0.3
Details

This article outlines the fixes and changes in Novell GroupWise 7.0.3 that may affect the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for Novell GroupWise:

Novell GroupWise 7.0.3 fixes or enhancements specific for the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
  • A new method was added Novell GroupWise 7.0.3 to help determine if a server is accessible in OAPI mode. This method is used in the BlackBerry Messaging Agent when the Novell GroupWise 7.0.3 client is installed, and results in a more efficient determination of Post Office Agent (POA) accessibility.
  • Changes were made to the GetMessage call in the Account object to increase the efficiency and throughput of the GetMessage call.
  • In Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) mode, calls to process contacts in a BlackBerry smartphone user's Address Book are enhanced. This allows the contact synchronization routines to efficiently determine whether a modification to a personal address book contact needs to be synchronized to the BlackBerry smartphone.
  • The Novell GroupWise 7.0 application programming interfaces (APIs) include implementations for retrieval of streams of data for specific email messages, such as HTML email. This is required to support new email message processing functionality.
Items to note from the Novell GroupWise 7.0.3 readme document

From section 14.8 Client API fixes
  • The replyTo element works correctly when sending messages from Novell GroupWise over the Internet.
    • This impacts email messages originating from the BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  • The contents of the Subject and Place fields translate correctly from Unicode.
    • This corrects handling of Unicode messages received in Novell GroupWise. This is important for BlackBerry smartphone users that correspond in multiple languages.
  • The Client API can export FIDs on address book entries.
    • This will be used in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server for enhanced BlackBerry smartphone user authentication.
  • The Folder.Messages.Find function correctly filters messages in the folder.
    • This will be used to implement new functionality in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  • Folder.FindMessages and Message.Find return more than 4 KB of items.
    • This will be used to implement new functionality in the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  • The TrashEntries collection returns 65535 when the Trash folder contains more than 64 KB of items, rather than returning 0.
    • This allows the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to better handle trash folder errors.
From section 14.9 Engine fixes
  • SOAP performance has been improved by using HTTP GET instead of getAttachmentRequest to stream attachments more efficiently.
  • SOAP can read all attachments just as the client API can.
    • This impacts future enhancements for attachment handling on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
  • SOAP includes the original time zone information when creating calendar items to facilitate future time zone adjustments.
  • SOAP correctly handles messages with blank subject lines.
  • SOAP can handle attachments of over 2 GB.
